Swissies can be affected by the same illnesses and diseases seen in other large and giant breed dogs.  One of these problems, splenic torsion, seems to be almost specific to our breed.  In general, the Greater Swiss is a fairly healthy dog for it's size, when compared to other breeds of similar origin.  Please visit the national club's website at www.gsmdca.org for more information.

Some of the more common problems found in swissies:

* Female Urinary Incontinence
* Distichiasis &  Entropian
* Lick Fit
* Ideopathic Epilepsy
* Bloat
* Splenic Torsion
* Hip Dysplasia
* Elbow Dysplasia
* Osteochondrosis dissecans  (OCD)
